🔥Weekly Mind Sweep #53 | Curated Conversation | Ego

January 2023

*Week 53: Curated Conversation; Ego

Week 54: Mind Your Business; Ego

Week 55: Manage Your Mind; Ego

Week 56: Contemplation; What’s On My Mind: My Thoughts On Ego

Now, let’s sweep the brain…

For January, I started researching this little three-letter word, ego, and my mind exploded with thoughts, ideas, new awareness, and many questions. The most prominent:

"How the heck will I find a story about ego to write about?

Jamie, how will you find an ego story about yourself?

Then, it hit me; like an absolute brick.

Everything is ego.

To begin, I reflected on the question, "Do I feel superior to others?" My mind immediately said, "absolutely not."

As I sat a little longer with the question, I remembered times when I experienced feeling uncomfortable in situations where those around me were heading toward what I deemed a mistake, error, or wrong choice.

I've recognized that by doing that, I kept them from learning a lesson they may need. This choice they are making is their journey, their path, and their lesson. It's not about me. They can only have their aha moment from experiencing the process. This realization touches so many pieces of my personal and professional life.

It is my ego that drives my unconscious desire to keep others from making or rescuing them from what I deem a mistake.

When I sat to reflect on the question, "Do I feel inferior to others?" My mind immediately said, "absolutely not."

As I sat longer with the question, I realized times when I had felt uncomfortable in situations where those around me were experiencing success, and I felt less than them. As a result, I'd begin to question my own effort, experience, or worth. Their successes (or failures, for that matter) had nothing to do with me.

I recognized that was my ego.

It became a beautiful learning experience of empathy and gratitude to be alongside others' joy and success. This realization also touches on pieces of my personal and professional life.

When I sat to reflect on the question, "What do I need to do to feel equal?" My mind immediately said, "absolutely nothing."

As I sat longer with the question, I realized that choosing ego as a theme for January may have been biting off more than I could chew. And who am I to be bringing this Curated Conversation to the table?

I recognized that is my ego.

These feelings are normal. Your brain still functions with the core job of keeping you safe. What you choose to do with them is a gift and opportunity. For growth, success, and conscious living. In the end, it’s me; hi, I’m the problem.

My dear friend Shannon Giordano often shares her mantra with me.

If not me, who? If not now, when?

I'm not an ego expert or a psychologist, and I don't have a master's degree. But I'm willing to be vulnerable, discuss the topic, and talk about hard things.

I look forward to Curated Conversations discussing the definition of ego from all perspectives.

I'm honored you are here to have a conversation with me.
