🔥Weekly Mind Sweep #59 | Mind Your Business | Neurodiversity

February 2023

Week 58: Curated Conversation; Neurodiversity

Week 59: Mind Your Business; Neurodiversity

Week 60: Manage Your Mind; Neurodiversity

Week 61: Contemplation; What’s On My Mind: My Thoughts On Neurodiversity

New to the Weekly MindSweep? Past issues live here.

Now, let’s sweep the brain…

Whether or not you're neurodiverse; neurodiversity affects your business.

When architects decide to build a bridge over a river they will access the middle by starting on each side. A team will begin to build on either side of the bridge.

They will install structural pillars to determine the route, and, in the end, they will meet in the middle.

Bridge building takes precision, but the analogy still works.

You, the business owner, are on one side of the bridge.

If you can relate to neurodiversity within yourself and your business, you can benefit from gaining an awareness of how your brain works. You can access creativity, innovative ideas, idea generation, hyper-focus, and more. In addition, you may recognize your day-to-day challenges, like finding systems and processes that work for you.

  • It's true that systems and processes matter in your business and life.

  • It's true that building routines in your life help lighten the cognitive load on your brain.

  • But it's also true that you can create the system that works for you and how you think and move about the world.

I find that entrepreneurs often think the "next best system" is just what they need, only for it to disappoint them and they drop it like it's hot. Often, they find a system where some pieces work really well but, as a whole, do not function well.

Did you know that you take pieces from one method and components from another that works for you and create your own? #MindBlown

Your client or customer is on the other side of the bridge.

Whether you can relate to neurodiversity in yourself or not, every person thinks differently. It’s important that you can communicate your ideas and accept those of others to find common ground.

It could be invaluable to a client that you understand how they move about the world and work to meet them by starting where they are at.

You may have systems in processes that help support how you work that only sometimes work with someone else. This could look like:

  • Missing deadlines

    • Reminders may be helpful.

  • Difficulty in following through on larger projects

  • Arriving late for meetings

  • Easily frustrated

    • Our nervous system, brain, and hearts are connected. Sometimes, when triggered, it can quickly switch the nervous system into protection mode. (See the book I’m reading on this at the end of this email)

This is a only a small example of things you may see to begin your awareness of neurodiversity.

Together, we can bridge the gap.

As a bridge connects two sides of a river, understanding and working with neurodiversity is a process of connecting two perspectives.

Be the bridge between you and your clients regardless of how your operating system works.

Everyone can benefit from awareness, acceptance, and empathy for how another human navigates the world.

If you or someone you love is wondering about neurodiversity, please talk to a doctor or trained professional. There are online surveys that might be able to help you to determine the best direction for you.

If you could use support creating systems and processes for your business, you belong here; I can help.
