Contemplation- Efficient
Citation of the week - “What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity.” — J. Sidlow Baxter.
Conversation consideration - Now is better than later, and perfect is an illusion.
Check (clarify) your Reality - ask yourself hard questions. Do you shove it under the rug and then trip over it later?
Now, let’s sweep the brain…
1. Contemplation.
Working in a well-organized and competent way.
It’s no secret that I love organization and working efficiently. However, one of the things that makes me uniquely me is my access to both sides of my brain well.
The right side is where all of my creativity comes from, and sometimes it outperforms the left, and efficiency goes out the window. (you too?)
Over the years, I’ve learned to accept this gift and allow the flow. When ideas come to me, I have choices. When the excitement of an idea comes to me, my brain gets the dopamine rush, and the excitement can be hard to contain. When the rush of creativity calls and I just CANNOT stop what I’m doing (like while driving my teens everywhere), I have to have tools in my toolbox.
A few techniques I use in these situations are:
Set it down. I have my Bullet Journal and notebook with me at all times. You will always see me writing while networking, reading, and even while relaxing! I find if I don’t let the idea out, it swirls around and gets stuck like an earworm, and I can’t let it go (because I don’t want to forget it!) So if I am driving, I use Siri to “remind” me at a date and time I know I will be still. (P.S. One of the many reasons I love my bullet journal is that one day it can be totally organized checklists, and the next day I can doodle!)
Go with the flow. If I’m doing something that CAN wait (ya’ know, like dishes or laundry), I allow myself the creative space to go with the creative flow and trust the process.
Put it in a Project Spreadsheet. I have a spreadsheet (oh, welcome back, left brain) full of ideas all in one place (organized by category, of course). Setting down allows me to put that fantastic idea in a position for safekeeping, and I’ll know where to find it when I make the time to return to it. (Notice I DID NOT say “have the time”)
2. Citation.
I’ve been doing a lot of work around Positive Intelligence over the past year. A HUGE thank you to Kate Hollis for introducing me to this fantastic program! (I thoroughly enjoyed being able to mind geek out with her about it!)
While most of the concepts within the book and the program are not NEW neuroscience, the ease of access, quick results with 2-minute meditations, and the use of an app have brought this idea to more of us that prioritize mental health, and the results are spreading fast.
Within Positive Intelligence (often referred to as “PQ”), the phrase “There are gifts and opportunities in every single situation.”
It takes increased emotional intelligence to see this in every single situation. If you constantly see things as obstacles, it could be time to work on your mental fitness! Stay tuned; I’m attending a training to become certified. (AND, I’m part of a particular group focusing on neurodiverse individuals #braingeek)
3. Conversation Consideration.
There are ideas in our lives that require time and consideration.
Do I want to buy a new car for my business?
Do I want to invest in new commercial space for my business?
Do I want to open a new business credit card?
And then some things CAN take time and consideration but do not necessarily HAVE to.
Do I start a blog?
Do I start a networking group>
Do I want to post on Social Media?
Discerning what things require time and consideration is a personal decision.
Sometimes you have to take the step back, make the time, discuss the pros and cons of a situation.
Sometimes you just need to jump, rip off the band-aid, leap and grow your wings on the way down.
Be curious. Make considerations. Either way, the perfect solution doesn’t exist. And even better, we learn more when we make mistakes. It’s why I love a #2 sharpened pencil with a Prisma Color Magic Rub Eraser #IYKYK.
4. Check your reality.
Do you shove it under the rug and then trip over it later?
