Have you ever had a situation where you softened a boundary, and it didn't go as planned?

We've all been there.

We've worked up the courage to set a hard boundary—around our time, energy, or even the type of clients we work with—and it feels right, firm, and even like we're in control.

But then, something happens.

When a client pushes just a little harder or a project deadline starts creeping into our personal time, we know we should say no, but we begin to feel guilty or convince ourselves that "just this once" won't hurt.

So, we soften the boundary.

But deep down, we already know it's a wrong move.

And it doesn't take long for things to unravel.

  • That client? They start expecting more.

  • The work? It spills over into family time, eroding the balance we worked so hard to protect.

We feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and maybe even a little bit mad at ourselves.

We knew this would happen.

So, there we are, left cleaning up the mess—struggling to regain the balance we sacrificed, knowing we ignored that gut feeling that was trying to protect us all along. But when we enforce our boundaries, there's a sense of relief and empowerment.

As entrepreneurs, our boundaries aren't just guidelines; they're lifelines.

When we allow them to blur, even for what seems like a good reason, the cost is always greater than we anticipated.

Next time you feel that nudge—when your instincts tell you to hold firm—practice listening to it. As entrepreneurs, we are not faced with life-saving, need-to-be-made-right-now decisions.

Invoke the power of the pause when making decisions that intuitively don't feel right.

Entrepreneurs would benefit from practicing this even when the decision feels right.

Boundaries exist for a reason. They protect our energy, focus, and creativity. When we trust them, we protect not only ourselves but also the quality of the work we deliver.

Trust your intuition. Trust yourself. Trust your boundaries.

They know what's best, and deep down, so do you.

My question for you this week :

What strategies do you use to remind yourself to trust your instincts when a boundary is being pushed?

Reply and share with me!

Let’s discuss ways I can support boundaries for you and your business.

You Have The Best Brain To Be An Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurs are some of the best brains for generating ideas. They have the heart and determination to bring their gifts into the world to serve the people they deeply care about. Nothing excites them more than building a business they are proud of around something they are passionate about.

These same kind-hearted humans often feel challenged to take their really BIG ideas and break them down into smaller, actionable tasks that will allow them to execute them.

(You are not alone!)

Jamie Chapman

Oh, Hi! I’m Jamie Chapman

I’m a Small Business Consultant who recognizes you might do things a little bit differently, and I’m here for it. I help support small businesses in a wide variety of industries and have a special place in my heart for neurodiverse entrepreneurs and ADHD business owners.

If you find that you’re often dancing to the beat of a pen tapping against your desk instead of your own drum, I see you and get you. And I want you to keep on dancing.

I value getting to know the whole person as a business owner and taking a holistic, human view of their needs. I meet you where you’re at and support you in getting to where you want to go.

I love watching small business owners thrive and feel proud of what they’re building.

Founder and Owner of Chickbook Creative, I’ve gained years of career experience in systems, processes, accountability, leadership, and project management. I bring a multi-faceted approach to problem-solving and extensive knowledge of executive functioning, habit formation, and the neurodiverse and ADHD entrepreneur’s mind.

I see and understand the ADHD entrepreneur brain at work, and I'm passionate about supporting neurodivergent business owners in a way that lets them shine their light and bring their gifts to the world for all to see (and pay them for!).
