Week 65: Contemplation; What’s on My Mind: My Thoughts on Capacity

New to the Weekly MindSweep? Past issues live here.

Writing is a creative process, and I typically hold the space to write my weekly email on Sunday. It's when I have room to breathe, be inspired, and let my ideas flow.

I've had to shift my schedule to write my email on a Thursday this week, and my creative muse didn't arrive on time.

Oh, I know! I head on over to Chat GPT! This online AI tool is just the thing I need to support the bubbling up of ideas. I enter the address in my browser and

[record scratch]

You are kidding me right now, right universe?

Now, let’s sweep the brain…

ca·pac·i·ty

/kəˈpasədē/

noun: capacity; plural noun: capacities

1.the maximum amount that something can contain.

2.the amount that something can produce.

Like machines, humans have a capacity as well.

Capacity is beginning to feel like a big word. Place it after most words in the dictionary, and it will describe said word's limit. Every place, everything, and every human has a point where they can no longer accept more of whatever is trying to enter.

While there are unlimited types of capacity, I'd like to discuss Time, Energy, and Attention.

The amount of time, energy and attention we can use is fundamentally limited.

Each human's Time, Energy, and Attention are diverse. Your resources are yours alone. The amount is fluid, can change based on how you care for yourself, and cannot be compared to someone else.

However, we can exercise and build our capacity around understanding, awareness, and what we value most.

As entrepreneurs, we often stretch ourselves and expend these resources beyond their capacity threshold.

Working more is not the answer.

I'm excited to begin discussing capacity and what it means to you.

  • In what areas of your life or business do you feel you are reaching capacity?

  • How does your body and mind warn you when you are approaching a threshold?

  • Are there any areas in your life or business where you might want to expand your capacity?

You belong here; I can help.

Jamie Chapman

Oh, Hi! I’m Jamie Chapman

I’m a Small Business Consultant who recognizes you might do things a little bit differently, and I’m here for it. I help support small businesses in a wide variety of industries and have a special place in my heart for neurodiverse entrepreneurs and ADHD business owners.

If you find that you’re often dancing to the beat of a pen tapping against your desk instead of your own drum, I see you and get you. And I want you to keep on dancing.

I value getting to know the whole person as a business owner and taking a holistic, human view of their needs. I meet you where you’re at and support you in getting to where you want to go.

I love watching small business owners thrive and feel proud of what they’re building.

Founder and Owner of Chickbook Creative, I’ve gained years of career experience in systems, processes, accountability, leadership, and project management. I bring a multi-faceted approach to problem-solving and extensive knowledge of executive functioning, habit formation, and the neurodiverse and ADHD entrepreneur’s mind.

I see and understand the ADHD entrepreneur brain at work, and I'm passionate about supporting neurodivergent business owners in a way that lets them shine their light and bring their gifts to the world for all to see (and pay them for!).
