🧠 Weekly Mind Sweep #82 | What’s On My Mind | Permission

Let’s sweep the brain…

Here’s your sign.

Let’s recap our month on Permission.

  • Permission is the “consent of a person in authority.”

  • We’ve been conditioned our whole lives to ask for permission.

  • So many entrepreneurs feel just like you.

  • You have everything you need.

  • Try the ABCDE model if you could use support.

  • You do not have to ask for permission.

  • Our brain is biased, and we’re living on a big rock moving through space, and nothing matters.

Guess my work here is done!

I’m kidding. We’re just beginning!

Let’s sweep the brain…

It will take time for society and our brains to shift from this learned behavior. As entrepreneurs (aka outside-of-the-box thinkers), we don’t care what society thinks! We have ideas!! We go against the grain every day!!! We’re confident enough to think they might work!!!! Well, for a few moments, anyway.

Ok, ok, well, maybe not as much as we think we do.

That silly organ in our head gets in the way with self-doubt and negative self-talk, and we quickly lose confidence.

Anything is possible for you.

There is no one in charge of you except you, and do we even have free will? [*1] Our subconscious is performing acts we are unaware of. You know, some minor things, such as ensuring we breathe, digest our foods and keep our hearts beating. No biggie.

Then we head over to our conscious brain is stuck in negative bias and using our nervous system to keep us safe. [*2]

When you zoom out and reflect on how amazing the human body is and what it can do and then see how far we’ve come, why do we still think we need permission from someone or something outside of ourselves?

Because it’s how it’s been, and that’s comfortable.

What is stopping you from:

  • Writing that newsletter?

  • Creating the offer you’re passionate about?

  • Asking for the support you need?

  • Selling a product that brings another human something they need or want?

We can’t always see the truth of what is happening. Our ego, expectation, and the stories we tell ourselves get in the way of reality. This is why an outside perspective can be so much clearer; it doesn’t carry all that weight.

Failure is not final. Practice getting comfortable with it.

You are the only one bringing your gifts into this world.

Own it. Commit to it. Believe it.

Our world is evolving faster than ever, and humans cannot keep up. It’s natural for our brain to default to why something can’t work. But the only way to know if that is true is to try.

If your brain needs a little kick in the butt from permission. Here it is.

If you are ready to build a business you are proud of, you belong here; I can help.

This has become a new space for my digressions.

What I’m reading

dopamine nation

Dr Anna Lembke

In Dopamine Nation, Dr. Anna Lembke, psychiatrist and author, explores the exciting new scientific discoveries that explain why the relentless pursuit of pleasure leads to pain . . . and what to do about it. Condensing complex neuroscience into easy-to-understand metaphors, Lembke illustrates how finding contentment and connectedness means keeping dopamine in check. The lived experiences of her patients are the gripping fabric of her narrative. Their riveting stories of suffering and redemption give us all hope for managing our consumption and transforming our lives. In essence, Dopamine Nation shows that the secret to finding balance is combining the science of desire with the wisdom of recovery.

Inside Job with Vee & Pam

Countermeasures

This episode started with us asking, "what do we talk about when there's nothing to talk about?" (As if... ) And before we knew it, we found the thread.

This week Pam and Vee unpack ideas of balance vs harmony, the gifts of observation, asking questions to get to what we want most, and ways to guide ourselves toward the best possible outcome.

Here's our question for you: how do you set yourself up for success?

If you find that you’re often dancing to the beat of a pen tapping against your desk instead of your own drum, I see you and get you. And I want you to keep on dancing.

I value getting to know the whole person as a business owner and taking a holistic, human view of their needs. I meet you where you’re at and support you in getting to where you want to go.

I love watching small business owners thrive and feel proud of what they’re building.

Founder and Owner of Chickbook Creative, I’ve gained years of career experience in systems, processes, accountability, leadership, and project management. I bring a multi-faceted approach to problem-solving and extensive knowledge of executive functioning, habit formation, and the neurodiverse and ADHD entrepreneur’s mind.

I see and understand the ADHD entrepreneur brain at work, and I'm passionate about supporting neurodivergent business owners in a way that lets them shine their light and bring their gifts to the world for all to see (and pay them for!).
