For those of you who are new here, hi, and welcome to a Curator's Perspective. AKA, we have an extra week for our month's topic, and I get to go rogue with what I write.

The past four weeks have been a riiiiide.

For April, we've been tapping into "Meaning." Some of us may feel a little dizzy from thoughts like "We're all on a big rock, and nothing matters" to "We need meaning to get out of bed Monday mornings at 8am for Curated Conversation." [1]

So, today, I want to share my "meaning" and "why" and where it all came from.

The Meaning Behind Chickbook Creative.

"Chickbook" [2] is a play on Quickbooks. For a shower thought, it's not bad. With four years under my belt, I've built brand recognition, and people know my name. (If they don't, could you please introduce us?)

"Creative" has meaning to me from my years at R.I.S.D [3] becoming a photographer and it blends well with my brainy experience of understanding the mind of a creative. We're a unique and quirky breed. We see the world differently, and I love it.

For most of my career, I've offered my bookkeeping skills to small service—and/or product-based businesses to get my size 11 shoe in the door and show them what I'm really capable of.

"Sure, I'll do some data entry to update the books you haven't touched in 5 years."

And then boom, before they know it, I'm running their business.

While working for others, I've developed Inventory Management Systems, created Systems and Processes, and drafted Standard Operating Procedures while managing a hefty case of Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, and Distribution. Let me clear those dishes, and yes, I'll sew your pants before I leave work today.

About a year and a half into Chickbook Creative, I realized where my real passion and true "meaning" for getting out of bed came from.

My fascination with unraveling the inner workings of the brain and my love for the quirky world of business allow me to see potential connections that no one else seems to notice. I can spot the parallels between neural networks and the intricate webs of commerce faster than a squirrel on a caffeine high.

I've spent my adult life learning about the brain, behavior, and emotions while generating spreadsheets, profit and loss statements, and inventory reports. Weird right? Nah, it actually makes me unique!

So, armed with a quirky sense of humor, a pocket full of puns, and a knack for connecting the dots, Chickbook Creative has become what it is today.

Do I wish I called it "Brainy Business Solutions?" Or "Chapman Consulting" Maybe. But, after being a proud participant in the Great Resignation [4], I was looking to start a business of my own…again (#WeddingPhotographer), and instead of waiting until I found the perfect name, I started.

I took the first step and brought that shower thought to life.

Today, I have more clarity in my "meaning" and "why". I've tapped into the power of psychology to support entrepreneurs and learned:

  • 🧠 I have a knack for understanding the complexities of the human mind (#NeuroSpicy or not!) with a wise sense of business.

    • đź’ś This supports entrepreneurs in boosting productivity, enhancing customer experiences, and unleashing their full potential in our current market.

  • 🧠 I can see when a system, process, or habit isn't working for the business owner's brain and where they may need to take a different approach for themselves, their business, or their staff.

    • đź’ś This supports entrepreneurs in pausing and considering a different approach that increases productivity and profitability. This also supports understanding consumer behavior to enhance customer experience through their marketing.

  • 🧠 I'm aware when emotions get in the way of doing the work that needs to be done, and I know what to do.

    • đź’ś This supports entrepreneurs in recognizing what is productive and what isn't, when to pause, and when to push. This boosts productivity and accountability in getting things done.

  • 🧠 I've tailored a MindSweep Mapping process to allow entrepreneurs to turn their wildest ideas into reality.

    • đź’ś With maps in hand, they take a business idea to profitability with all the steps they need along the way, including detours.

  • 🧠 I know how scary the financial numbers can be. Trust me, you’re not the only hiding from them.

    • đź’ś With my support we can unpack the data and find a safe path forward.

I've embraced my quirks, followed my passion and purpose, and have proven to myself that anything is possible. This gift of my insatiable curiosity and unwavering passion for the entrepreneur's brain makes me unique.

My love of the brain and passion for business bring me joy and make a difference in people's lives and businesses.

I've become known as the go-to for entrepreneurs looking to tap into the power of their gray matter.

Finding meaning in my work was the key to true success.

Now, in year 4, I'm in a place where I can stand true to my values and embrace the power of meaning it has for me and those I serve. I'm a successful entrepreneur on a mission to change the world.

Excuse me while I change an entrepreneur's brain space, one synapse at a time.

What is your “WHY” and “MEANING” in business? How is it supporting your revenue goals so you can keep funding your mission?

I encourage you to write your story and share it with the world!

What I’m reading

What I’m reading:

A very special thank you to Kate Hollis for recommending this book to me! (She has a special gift of knowing which book belongs in front of your eyes, heart, and soul.) Thank you, Kate!

From bestselling and award-winning author Patrick deWitt comes the story of Bob Comet, a man who has lived his life through and for literature, unaware that his own experience is a poignant and affecting narrative in itself.

Bob Comet is a retired librarian passing his solitary days surrounded by books and small comforts in a mint-colored house in Portland, Oregon.

One morning on his daily walk he encounters a confused elderly woman lost in a market and returns her to the senior center that is her home. Hoping to fill the void he’s known since retiring, he begins volunteering at the center.

Here, as a community of strange peers gathers around Bob, and following a happenstance brush with a painful complication from his past, the events of his life and the details of his character are revealed.
