My twin boys recently completed 13 years in an environment not designed for the way their ADHD brains operate. Over the past 18 years, I've been on a journey to ensure they thrive in a world that often doesn't understand their unique needs.
Together, each step of the way, we built resilience, navigated the system with respect, and raised awareness about the diverse ways humans learn and grow.
Every day, we faced challenges and embraced wins, sort-of wins, and numerous failures. Despite the difficulties, we found success in every step. Keeping them alive and thriving for 18 years has been no small feat, and at times, I wasn't sure we'd all make it out alive. [1]
As I reflect now, the everyday trial and error taught us to learn, grow, and achieve personal and now professional success.
Success is a mindset.
Like my boys, I've spent over 25 years working in environments where I didn't love my work or how some businesses operated. I, too, was a square peg trying to navigate the round hole of the business world.
Every day, I showed up to find harmony in what worked while questioning inefficient methods and feeling like I was the only one who could see the forest through the trees.
Since then, I've stepped out of the traditional working system and built something I am proud of. This continuous effort to find balance is crucial in both parenting and entrepreneurship.
We're taught someone else's definition of success from a young age.
Historically, it was "Graduate High School and you will be successful." Now, it's "Graduate College, and you will be successful." This system only works for some of our young adults. I'm not questioning the value of learning or curiosity, but rather the effectiveness of the current system being pushed on minds of all kinds.
This is especially true for neurodivergent individuals who think and operate differently.
We tend to land as entrepreneurs. We've taken a massive leap in facing the challenge of defining success in a business world that often doesn't align with our values.
So what is an entrepreneur to do?
The first step is determining what success means to you.
The next is finding harmony between running a business you're proud of and achieving financial success without compromising your integrity.
When you're driven by passion and purpose, there are no shortcuts or quick riches. Building something you are proud of requires setting small, actionable goals and working toward them each and every day.
Small steps lead to big results.
It takes a success mindset. Only you can define success, free from societal and ancestral expectations.
You determine what is successful in business and in life.
As my twin boys exited the platform after receiving their High School diplomas, I felt a sense of personal success. It's been a long, challenging journey, but seeing them achieve this milestone reminds me that every step, every struggle, and every small victory has been worth it.
Your entrepreneurial journey mirrors this.
You get to decide. You get to choose. You determine what success is to you.
With my personal and professional experience, we can bridge the gap between how business systems work and how you move through the world.
Let's work together to build a successful business you are proud of.
The definition of success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.

Jeff Coleman, owner of Factor Four Consulting, will show you:
Why starting with a "bullseye" keyword phrase makes your campaigns more effective
How to work with the algorithms and not against them
Why negative keywords are a positive force for your success
Jeff has been running Google Ads for the past 19 years (16 with his own agency) and managed tens of millions of dollars in ad spend for 75+ clients -- several have been with him for more than a decade. No matter the size of the budget, his primary focus is driving profitable results for clients.
