My first IN PERSON WORKSHOP is here. I am excited to collaborate with Lisa Campbell of Mindfulfilled Meditation and Pam Formosa of BrainFit Academy

Now, let’s sweep the brain…

Trust firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability or strength of someone or something

Contemplation: Trust - did you know there are two types?

1.Contemplation. Trust - did you know there are two types?

Practical Trust

  • You show up on time.

  • You get your work done.

  • Meet deadlines.

  • Reliable.

By earning this kind of trust will get you the reputation of being someone reliable. When you say you'll do something, you do it.

Emotional Trust

  • Feeling respected.

  • Generous listening.

  • Networking.

  • Building a bond.

You create emotional trust by more than expected what is expected of you and creating meaningful bonds with others.

10 most influential ways to build trust

  1. Value Long term relationships - take accountability for your words and actions.

  2. Be Honest - tell the truth, even if it's awkward.

  3. Honor your commitments - Do what you say you will do. Avoid making commitments you cannot keep.

  4. Admit when you are wrong - Take accountability.

  5. Communicate effectively - don't leave room for interpretation and if you are not sure, ask questions!

  6. Be vulnerable - be open to sharing how you are feeling. Be careful not to overshare.

  7. Be Helpful - help people when you can.

  8. Show people you care - practice active listening and remembering names.

  9. Stand up for what is right - Don't sacrifice your values and what you believe.

  10. Be transparent - Explain what you are doing and why. The people you build trust with are usually people on your team that you are working with collaboratively.

It doesn't happen overnight. It takes being intentional and daily practice.

Need support?

Citation of the Week: "Trust is built when no one is looking” Seth Godin

2. Citation.

Are you behaving in a way to create the appearance of trust, or are you trustworthy?

Are you doing what you say you will do when you say you will do it?

If you struggle to follow through on commitments that you are making, it may be time to reevaluate.

Do you need to take a look at what you commit to?

Do you need tools or support to get things done?

I can help.

3. Conversation Consideration: Stand up for what is right.

3. Conversation Consideration.

Last Thursday in Leadership MetroWest Academy, we had the privilege to receive an Introduction to Active Bystander Training with Lino Covarrubias, CEO of JFS of MetroWest.

We learned:

  • verbal and physical harm examples

  • the definition of the roles played - Target. Harm doer. Bystander.

  • the difference between being an active bystander vs. a passive bystander

  • how bystanders can interrupt harmful situations and generate positive actions.

Being an active bystander means being aware of when someone's behavior is inappropriate or threatening and choosing to challenge it.

I'm thankful this was fresh in my mind when dealing with #9 in my Contemplation this week. Stand up for what is right. - Don't sacrifice your values and what you believe.

There are times and situations when we see or feel something is not right. When it's physical, fight or flight in your brain is activated, and you take action. When verbal, we tend to have a similar reaction and want to reply immediately.

When allowed to take a pause and step out of fight or flight (i.e., calm down), you can access the prefrontal cortex of your brain, where good decisions happen. If then, you still feel you need to speak up; you will feel even more confident and have learned to trust that instinct and act.

Do you need support taking a pause?

Do you want to practice standing up for what is right and what that means for you?

You belong here.

Check Your Reality: (Ask yourself hard questions.) How trusted is your business vs. How trusted are you?

4. Check your reality.

Be Trustworthy. How trusted is your business vs. How trusted are you?

Have you heard of the Trust Equation?

Trustworthy =

Credibility + Reliability + Intimacy
________________________

Self-Orientation

Credibility - the words we speak.

Reliability - our actions.

Intimacy - the safety and security we feel.

Self-orientation - refers to the focus of the person in question. In particular, whether the person focuses primarily on themselves or the other person.

Increasing the value of the top increases the value of trust. Conversely, increasing the value of the bottom—that is, self-orientation—decreases the value of trust.

Trust in selling requires all four variables in the equation. But the most important is low levels of self-orientation.

People don't primarily trust institutional entities; they trust other people.

It starts with you.
