Week 42: Manage Your Mind; Community

Now, let’s sweep the brain

As social beings, we look to others as role models of behavior, and we learn from that experience. For example, when women are vulnerable in sharing difficult, possibly shameful, or challenging thoughts, we begin to imitate that behavior and learn how to be more empathetic to others.

We learn to support humans in a time of need.

I spent almost every weekend when I was young in a religious community with my grandparents. As I grew, I developed a deeper understanding of my relationship with religion. As a teen, I saw things differently (and yes, I rebelled a bit).

When you were a kid, you probably didn’t get much say about where your family brought you or the community they surrounded you with. These environments influenced your brain and development without your choice.

As a full-grown adult, I can reflect on that time with fond memories of community events, connections with families, and a welcoming atmosphere.

You and I have control and choice of where we spend our time and energy and I enjoy creating a safe environment where women can come together and collaborate. Creating collaborative communities will help us to feel a genuine connection and begin healing together. We’ve all been through a collective trauma. Our brains, our safety, and our businesses have been affected. And boy, we are feeling it.

Amiright?

As we consider our direction, let's go through it together. Collectively.

You’re not biologically wired to do this alone.

Neuroscience of community shows that when a child is able to be in a supportive environment, their brain develops better. This used to happen when families were multi-generational. Parents had more support to feel safe, secure, and supported.

This is also true for women in business.

We can learn to develop strategies and create positive change in a community. You started by making a connection with one person. Then you bring in a person you know, like, and trust, and they do the same. And a new community is born.

We need to be around women who have come before us and support the women following us. We’ll all be better for it.

It won’t be an overnight success like some things we see in the media. In reality, it takes 1% shifts to create habits that spread.

Join a like-hearted community

Jamie Chapman

Oh, Hi! I’m Jamie Chapman

I’m a Small Business Consultant who recognizes you might do things a little bit differently, and I’m here for it. I help support small businesses in a wide variety of industries and have a special place in my heart for neurodiverse entrepreneurs and ADHD business owners.

If you find that you’re often dancing to the beat of a pen tapping against your desk instead of your own drum, I see you and get you. And I want you to keep on dancing.

I value getting to know the whole person as a business owner and taking a holistic, human view of their needs. I meet you where you’re at and support you in getting to where you want to go.

I love watching small business owners thrive and feel proud of what they’re building.

Founder and Owner of Chickbook Creative, I’ve gained years of career experience in systems, processes, accountability, leadership, and project management. I bring a multi-faceted approach to problem-solving and extensive knowledge of executive functioning, habit formation, and the neurodiverse and ADHD entrepreneur’s mind.

I see and understand the ADHD entrepreneur brain at work, and I'm passionate about supporting neurodivergent business owners in a way that lets them shine their light and bring their gifts to the world for all to see (and pay them for!).
