Week 39: A September Reflection.

Now, let’s sweep the brain

I wiped the tears from my face as I finished the 5th night of packaged ramen noodles with an egg on top, just like my mom used to make. My boys called them "special noodles" because that was my way of making life fun and finding a small piece of sunshine in a dark two-bedroom apartment.

With the words "You'll never be anything without me" on a constant loop in my brain, I scoffed and got down to business. I wanted to work, and I needed money. I started a small photography business after graduating from RISD in 2007, and it was time to take it to the next level by taking on events.

A short entrepreneurial journey as an event photographer was a fun 10 years. It’s also full of fun stories! During that time in my life, the inconsistency of income kept me working full-time outside of my business. I would do that differently with what I know now. But that's now how life works.

Don’t blink.

As we turn the page to October, Chickbook Creative will celebrate 2 years as an LLC. Last week I shared my professional story of leaving a full-time job.

This week, we get personal

Don’t Blink

When I reflect on WHY I made a choice to start business consulting, it comes from my core. It is a piece of my past, a part of my heart, and the depth of my soul.

In 2008, with 2.5-year-old twins, I walked out of a picture-perfect (from the outside) life. The only thing missing was the picket fence.

When I woke to find myself without a car, credit cards, career, or job and two faces staring back at me, it was time to get my act together. It's fascinating what we can do when we finally hit bottom—survival mode.

Helping women would be my core focus from that day forward, creating wealth, protecting assets, and making their own money.

The full-time work didn't pay well, but what I learned was priceless.

How I choose to lead, use my voice, and consistently make it all happen.

I've witnessed businesses:

  • micro-manage their staff and kill a culture

  • misuse policy, pay women less, and keep them from growing within the company

  • make poor investments of time and money

  • grow too fast without a solid foundation in place

I've also witnessed businesses:

  • use strategic growth and business development to increase revenue.

  • invest in training staff on how to sell consistently with a repeatable process

  • give back to the community, genuinely

  • provide white-glove customer service

Each experience provided me with personal and professional growth that has brought me to business consulting and entrepreneurship. I'm right where I belong, doing what I love, with women ready to take their business to the next level.

I’m something without him.

This kind of career isn't for the faint of heart. It takes a woman with confident humility, high emotional intelligence, and empathy for herself and others.

Cheers to two years. Here's to many more.

Let's connect and create a better strategy for you and your business. A simple tweak will pay for itself in no time.

You don’t have to do it alone. You belong here; I can help.

Jamie Chapman

Oh, Hi! I’m Jamie Chapman

I’m a Small Business Consultant who recognizes you might do things a little bit differently, and I’m here for it. I help support small businesses in a wide variety of industries and have a special place in my heart for neurodiverse entrepreneurs and ADHD business owners.

If you find that you’re often dancing to the beat of a pen tapping against your desk instead of your own drum, I see you and get you. And I want you to keep on dancing.

I value getting to know the whole person as a business owner and taking a holistic, human view of their needs. I meet you where you’re at and support you in getting to where you want to go.

I love watching small business owners thrive and feel proud of what they’re building.

Founder and Owner of Chickbook Creative, I’ve gained years of career experience in systems, processes, accountability, leadership, and project management. I bring a multi-faceted approach to problem-solving and extensive knowledge of executive functioning, habit formation, and the neurodiverse and ADHD entrepreneur’s mind.

I see and understand the ADHD entrepreneur brain at work, and I'm passionate about supporting neurodivergent business owners in a way that lets them shine their light and bring their gifts to the world for all to see (and pay them for!).
